Chesapeake Cast publishes explanatory articles about fishing literacy, waterside observation and thoughtful trip planning on the Chesapeake Bay. The editorial policy rests on a few clear commitments.

Observation and Sourcing

We separate observation from instruction. An article may explain how salinity gradients, dissolved oxygen, tides or barotrauma work, and it may suggest questions a reader can ask of a source. When regulations matter, we link to official agency pages and ask readers to confirm current rules themselves. We do not invent fishing rules, limits, season dates or prices.

Images and Labels

Illustrations, diagrams and synthetic images are editorial aids. They explain a concept and are not photographic records of a specific trip, catch or location unless a page says so explicitly. Where an image is synthetic, the page label says so.

Corrections

A correction note should identify the article title, its slug or URL, the exact sentence or paragraph in question, and the source you checked it against, such as an official agency page, public dataset or chart reference. Add a short note on what differs. That structure makes a comparison quick to repeat, and it keeps the review focused on checkable claims.

Scope and Safety

Our topics stay within planning, observation, materials and visual literacy. Where a decision depends on local rules, weather or vessel condition, consult qualified staff such as state agency personnel or a licensed captain. Our voice is precise, approachable and concrete, favoring verifiable detail over drama.
