She says she wants a man who stands straight up and tallBut when she blows into town she kicks up a dust ballI’m not saying that I dont quite admireHer cyclone nature and her stormy desiireBut like or not she’s a total disasterA one of a kind, a real Plaster casterThe word on the street is there’s gonna be troubleSo lock up your boyfriend, husband or (little) brotherShe’s a category 5Category 5She’s a category 5Hope I’ll surviveWe’re meeting at noon at the Hope and AnchorFor some beers and chips without the rancorIts been a long time but we’ll see how it goesBeen here before gotta keep on my toesCause she’s a category 5Category 5She’s a category 5Hope I’ll survive

Rum Bar Records heads back to the bar to serve up 2024 ‘Second Shot’ compilation. Boston independent garage rock and power-pop record label wraps a lively 2024 with free 38-trackcomp: knyvet.substack.com/p/rum-bar-records-heads-back-to-the
“Rum Bar Records brilliantly captures the true heart and soul of the local Boston music scene and beyond and, this is on full vibrant display on ‘Second Shot’” - The Whole Kameese
"Help a good cause AND get tons of kickass music on top of all that? How can you not be down with this??" - Rock and Roll Fables
"Anybody who listens to The Ledge knows that one of my favorite labels is Rum Bar Records. The Boston-based label is a treasure trove of garage, punk, glam, and good ol' fashioned "rawk". It's also a label that loves to offer musicheads a good bargain, and the best sort of bargain is of the free variety. So hit this link and download a free 38 track sampler of the great bands on that label. That's right, it's FREE!!! What can go wrong?" - Scott Hudson, The Ledge
"This collection, for me, seems to bring me back to a live spot from years ago even though much of the material is new. That’s just it, back when, we’d go out and check out bands at shows and that’s what this collection does as it lets us hear in present day what we might be missing live but what’s better is when folks like you and I venture out to see the live local show. As far as the choices on this comp, they all are really great here, though I’m noticing a few more tunes that sound a bit louder more up front and in our face than usual. My personal favorites so far out of the list of 38 tracks are Boris the Sprinkler with ‘Come On Mrs White’ (it’s got cool Brit riffs with a modish sensibility) , then Wimps - ‘Little Heart’ (sounds very catchy & familiar as I lament on seeing the Ramones live again). When hearing the Legendary Swagger, I’m reminded when seeing a random band who I never knew about and ends up being really cool.. (‘yeah who was that opening band really cool and punk sounding!’). Then of course there’s some garage rocker gems here like the straight up sounds of The Dogmatics - Library Girl and the Hi End - Something to Hide. ‘Second Shot’ is really cool collections of tracks that I think will take us back to the clubs in your living room or in your car.. Do us a favor and support Rumbar Records go to a show download something still new!" - Bob Cenci
"Over the last decade or so, Rum Bar Records has grown to become one of the great independent labels. For lovers of grubby sounding retro rock, power pop and even melodic punk, it’s become a one-stop shop for some superb underground sounds. They’ve even diversified to bring their audience bits and pieces from the alternative country scene, and a whole different retro vibe. With a massive selection of almost forty tracks featured, this one of the biggest Rum Bar/Knyvet giveaways to date. By showcasing a world of retro rock and power pop with a wave of punk and a little good old rock ‘n’ roll, ‘Second Shot’ gives the listener an incredibly strong overview of the label’s chief interests." - Real Gone
If the common phrase “Think globally, act locally” was a record label, it’d probably be Rum Bar Records.
Esteemed and independent Boston-based label, which last year celebrated its 10th anniversary, caps a wild and busy 11th year of operation with Second Shot, a free 38-track compilation of garage rock, power-pop, pub rock, indie, punk, and swaggering rock and roll.
Serving as a look back at Rum Bar’s active 2024 – full of both homegrown and national bands and artists – and a peek into what next year may bring, Second Shot drops just ahead of Black Friday, and for good reason: Those who use the discount code niceprice20 at checkout will score 20 percent off all purchases on Rum Bar’s Bandcamp page through December 31, including pre-orders, all physical and digital music purchases, and merchandise.
In addition, the label is donating 20.25% of all profits during the month of December to Planned Parenthood. And Rum Bar is offering a “brown bag special,” where during December fans can get 5 CDs, randomly selected by Mansdorf, as well as a label koozie and sticker, for just $15.
