Baldur's Gate 3 has 12 classes and 46 subclasses to choose from, providing a variety of unique skill options for your character.

The Paladin is the strongest class and subclass in Baldur's Gate 3 due to its damage output, survivability, and versatility. The Paladins can access various weapons and armour types, allowing for diverse playstyles. Combining Extra Attack with Divine Smite results in exceptional raw damage potential.

Baldur's Gate 3 is based on Dungeons & Dragons 5e but has a maximum level of 12, not the tabletop RPG's maximum level of 20. Expansion of the level cap is unlikely. Higher-level spells and stronger villains in late-game DnD make it challenging to continue Baldur's Gate 3 past level 12 in a video game format.

The Upper City Is Missing From Baldur's Gate 3

The most noticeable missing content from Baldur's Gate 3, and the one causing most of the contention with the community, is the entire Upper City of Baldur's Gate.

Upon another long rest, the ascended Astarion will give the player-controlled character the opportunity to turn into a vampire spawn by drinking a drop of his blood. While this will grant them access to the basic Vampiric Bite ability, they'll be much weaker than Astarion.

You can multiclass in Baldur's Gate 3 as early as level 2, and there are no restrictions on which classes you can combine together — although some obviously play much better together than others. When you level up, look for a button in the top right of the level up panel (on the left side of your screen).

The Life Domain Cleric is the dominant support and versatility build in BG3. The Life subclass unlocks heavy armour proficiency and powerful healing domain spells. You have a one-hand and shield-wielding heavy armour spell caster that is incredibly survivable and able to heal.

Almost Any Subclass Of The Wizard Is Hard To Master

Wizards are one of the deadliest spellcasting classes in Baldur's Gate 3. They have the potential to learn any spell in the game as long as they have found a scroll of it and then proceed to cast it at even higher levels.

The best classes in BG3 are Bard, Rogue, Wizard, Cleric, and Paladin, as they are the best at fulfilling their role. All five of these classes are able to accomplish their specialty better than any other, even if just by a small margin.

But, because of this system, many player characters rarely make it to even level 12. In Baldur's Gate 3, level 12 works as a cap considering the length of the game. To put it simply: a cap of level 20 would make the game impossibly long, with at least an entire additional act needed to accommodate it.

It's highly unlikely that we'll see further updates or expansions in the future that raise the cap beyond level 12, due to the complexity it adds when accounting for high-level spells and powers.

Despite the popularity of the class and it being lore friendly, there are a number of reasons why the Artificer class can't be added to Baldur's Gate 3 via DLC. Larian has made a name for itself for its relationship it has with its players, and adding classes via paid DLC has never been a popular move.
